1982
It all started in 1982 when Romer Labs Inc. was founded by Tom and Marie Romer in Washington, MO. Initially a testing service company for mycotoxins, the company soon started expanding the scope and size of its business.

Romer Labs is a company of dsm-firmenich.
Making the World’s Food Safer® - This has been Romer Labs’ abiding passion for more than 40 years, and is what continues to inspire us as we innovate and grow. Since our founding in 1982, Romer Labs has grown to become a leading global supplier of diagnostic solutions today.
And here is our story.
Our customers tell us that when they buy our products, they do so in full confidence that they are getting a reliable product and/or service, something that meets or even exceeds their performance expectations at any time. This is what they have come to appreciate and expect from us, and is a value we strive to uphold at all times.
How can we best uphold this trust in the quality of our products? We have taken care to implement certifications for all quality management systems relevant in our business of high quality diagnostic products and services. More than a phrase we market, “quality management” is about taking the necessary steps – benchmarking and continuous improvements – towards achieving EN ISO 9001, the industry standard and technical basis for quality management.
Using the pyramid as an ideal for building upon standards, ISO 9001 sets the base for a graphical three-tier quality management pyramid. Sandwiched between this and the apex is ISO 17025, the standard implemented in all our analytical services labs worldwide. This lays down the technical requirements of a testing laboratory and details how analytical service labs should be managed to guarantee high quality, internationally comparable results by using state-of the art methods.
All this is much more than simply clinching certifications for our global entities and research facilities. Whether in our manufacturing processes or in the services we provide, this is the value we attach to all our undertakings. Because acting on such values translates to the best possible quality experience for our customers.
Please find below a list of all implemented standards and links to the respective certificates.
At Romer Labs, we like to set ourselves some tough goals. Such as setting ourselves a commitment to becoming a CO2-neutral enterprise by the year 2023, and to contribute as a business towards reducing enterprise-related greenhouse gas emissions.
Romer Labs Diagnostic GmbH has taken the lead towards becoming carbon neutral. Carbon neutrality applies to all products and services produced by Romer Labs Diagnostic GmbH. This concerns ISO 17025 for analytical service laboratories and the trading of diagnostic solutions.
It involves three steps: detect, reduce and compensate for CO2 emissions. Compensation is implemented by contributions to internationally recognized environmental projects in areas such as forest protection and the production of renewable energies such as biomass, hydropower and wind energy. Some projects may even include social components, such as the promotion of educational standards of local populations.
The carbon footprint for a company is calculated for a predefined scope and over a specific period of time, reduced by implementing various measures in the company and – what can’t be further reduced - offset through the acquisition of carbon certificates that go towards funding environmentally and socially conscious projects. So that everything is above board, these CO2 calculations are checked and confirmed by external auditors (in our case by TÜV Nord).
For Romer Labs Diagnostic GmbH, the 280 tons of CO2 generated in FY 2013 were offset with the purchase of certificates for the forest protection project “Sofolo” in Mozambique. For FY 2014, we generated 255 tons, which was compensated for through our support of the forest protection project “April Salumei” in Papua New Guinea. In addition to offsetting greenhouse gas emissions, Romer Labs targets to further minimize emission sources within the organization and go beyond being simply carbon neutral to becoming a carbon negative organisation.
