Spot On: To Label or Not to Label? Understanding the Proposed Changes to the CODEX Standard for Allergen Labelling
Are new requirements for mandatory allergen labelling on the horizon?
Experts have been busy in recent months updating the Codex General Standard for the Labelling of Pre-Packaged Foods. Their recommendations represent the latest science on food allergens, reference doses, and the usefulness of precautionary allergen labelling (PAL). And regulatory bodies often take advice from Codex into consideration.
In this issue of Spot On, allergen experts Benjamin Remington and René Crevel bring their unique perspective to the changes being proposed by the FAO/WHO Expert Consultation Committee and what they might mean to food producers. Our product manager Martin Candia also looks at some of the proposed updates and the questions they raise.
In this issue:
- An updated list of global priority food allergens based on prevalence, potency and severity of allergic reaction
- Potentially new food allergens and thresholds
- 5 things you need to know about how allergen labelling can change
